The first single, ‘Thangappulla,’ from the film Thagappan—starring Jiiva, produced by Lark Studios, and directed by Ra. Venkat—has been released by music composer and actor G.V. Prakash Kumar. Composed by Marshall Robinson with lyrics penned by Pa. Vijay, the song is sung by Murugavel. It has garnered attention for its emotional portrayal of the depth of the father-son bond, the pain of separation, and a father’s boundless love.
While Tamil cinema frequently features songs celebrating the affection between a father and his children (son or daughter) when they are together, Thagappan takes a different approach. The song ‘Thangappulla’ centers on a father who lives apart from his son, yet finds joy in observing his son’s life milestones from afar, unseen. It beautifully captures the yearning of a father unable to share his love directly, and the quiet, affectionate way he cherishes his son’s happiness from a distance.
With its gentle melody, evocative lyrics by Pa. Vijay, and the soulful vocals of Murugavel, the song truly comes to life. This project, which features Jiva in a fully rural setting—a return to such a backdrop for him since the film ‘Thenavattu’—stars Rajisha Vijayan as the female lead. The film is produced by K. Kumar, with M. Sukumar handling the cinematography and Naguran Ramachandran in charge of editing.
Think Music has acquired the music rights for the film. Notably, even before the film’s completion, its satellite broadcast rights were secured by Zee Tamil, and its OTT rights were acquired by Zee5. As anticipation grows for the film’s release on December 24th, the release of the song ‘Thangapulla’ has further heightened interest in the project.
