When one walks in to watch a film helmed by Gautham Vasudev Menon known for his style and sophistication, expectations are aplenty as the filmmaker is capable of painting a rich canvas on the screen punctuating it with all possible prominent ingredients backed by an ensemble cast and sprinkled with foot tapping music!

Well, this latest outing of Gautham mostly contains all the above mentioned delicacies though not exactly in the desired manner! Yet, he has come up triumphs with respect to extracting the best out of the protagonist played brilliantly by T.R.Silambarasan who has possibly put his best foot forward to enact his character in the best possible manner!

Gautham & Silambarasan can as well be branded as brothers at arms as evidenced by their previous collaborative venture, 6 and 12 years earlier respectively-Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa (2010) and Acham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada (2016)!

Evidently, Gautham has consciously departed from his usual style of filmmaker as exemplified by the scenes and settings which appear quite different! Perhaps, the reason that could be attributed to the above fact is the fact that writer Jeyamohan has assumed responsibility for the script!

Needless to mention, Silambarasan is simply too good for words and has come up with a towering performance that is terrific! His body language, walking style etc stand out well!

He plays Muthu, a teenager from a village backdrop who sets out to a big city and not before long, his life changes to an angle of 360* as he turns a gangster. We only get to see Muthu and not Simbu!

Radhika as his mom is adequate while most of the other characters in the film appear underwritten.

The screenplay takes its own sweet time to unfold while the audience feel like unfolding their uneasiness in witnessing the proceedings that appear to be in no hurry at all to say what they wanted to say!

A.R.Rahman’s score is a value addition.

A sequel is hinted at and we need to wait for long to watch it unfold!

The film draws to rather a satisfactory close…
