Perhaps, the time is ripe for contemporary filmmakers to toy with themes that provide the platform for sensitive themes deliberating on ticklish issues!
Satanism stands to denote Anti-Christ and the crux of the plot is about a young girl from a conservative Christian family who becomes the chosen one to become a Nun which she still stands confused whether she should travel in the chosen path or back out to lead a life of her own that would eventually offer her plentiful opportunities to enjoy life!
The writer /director certainly deserves a pat on his back for his boldness to take up such a theme pertaining to a particular community while on the other hand, it is customary for them to tickle , humiliate and insult the most followed community of the country criticizing and ridiculing it to the core!
But, like it was the case in Bad Girl that proclaimed, women empowerment only stood to refer to freedom of women to do anything that they want – smoking, drinking, having physical relationships with multiple men etc., here, the director has tried to advocate the analogy that freedom (for women) means doing anything they like regardless of whether it is ethical or not and the focus is only on satisfying ‘the self’ and not bothering about its consequences or how it impacts the others around!
So much detailing of Satanism , the rituals concerned and the communities that patronize such ideologies within closed doors – is it necessary – this question certainly surfaces in the minds of others viewers!
Also, was it necessary to talk in detail about about the individual who initiated Satanism by referring to his name and the book that he wrote! These portions could have been trimmed down a bit!
Performance wise, Saishri Prabhakaran and Sidhu Kumaresan steal the frames. Pavel Navagethan is impressive as the follower of Satanism.
A delicate subject matter daringly touched upon! Rightly so, the film has earned encomiums on global arena!
