P.U. Supraja’s Bharatanatyam Arangetram (Debut Performance) Held Successfully Under the Leadership of Actor-Director Radhakrishnan Parthiban; Film Celebrities Attend and Offer Best Wishes!
The Bharatanatyam Arangetram of P.U. Supraja—a student of Guru Thulasi, the founder and director of Vasudevan Naathalaya—was celebrated with great grandeur at the Chinmaya Heritage Centre in Chetpet, Chennai.
P.U. Supraja, the daughter of the couple J. Prabhakar and Udhayachandrika, has been training in Bharatanatyam under Guru Thulasi for the past 15 years; she successfully completed this Arangetram, marking a significant milestone in her long artistic journey.
Actor-Director Radhakrishnan Parthiban, a recipient of the National Award and the Kalaimamani Award, presided over the event as the chief guest and offered his congratulations. Additionally, Shanta Dhananjayan—a leading artist in the world of Bharatanatyam and a Padma Bhushan awardee—attended as a special guest and blessed Subraja.
Film personalities including director Vasanthabalan; producers Aapavanan, Khaja Moideen, and Varadarajan; actor Ilavarasu; cinematographers Rathnavelu and Selvakumar; and writer-actor Kavitha Bharathi attended the event in person to congratulate the artist on her debut performance.
Professor Dr. G. Senthilvel, Director of the National Institute of Siddha, and Dr. C. Saranya (IRS), Joint Commissioner of Customs, also participated as special guests and commended the artists.
Featuring Nattuvangam and choreography by Guru Thulasi, the event showcased traditional Bharatanatyam items ranging from Pushpanjali to Mangalam. Supraja’s performance—characterized by artistic grace, expressive Abhinaya, and precise movements—deeply captivated the audience. The musical accompaniment for the event was provided by Tenkasi Samy Kumar (vocal), S.V. Ramanan (mridangam), R.T. Jagadeesan (violin), and Nimal Varshan (flute). Geetha Manimozhi handled the makeup.
