Oscar-Contender Tamil Film GEVI Celebrates Historic Real-World Victory: Legendary Composer Deva Sings “Hill Anthem” Written by Vairamuthu ( ESAN SONALUM RATION KADIKUMA ).

CHENNAI, INDIA — Following its landmark entry into the eligibility list for the 98th Academy Awards, the critically acclaimed Tamil survival drama ‘Gevi’, produced by ARTUPTRIANGLES FILM KAMPANY , has celebrated a monumental real-world milestone. The film’s pivotal track, the “Hill Anthem” (titled “Maa Malaye”), brings together two absolute stalwarts of Indian cinema: legendary composer THENISAI THENDRAL DEVA , who lent his iconic voice, and Kaviperarasu Vairamuthu , who penned the soul-stirring lyrics.

Deva sir has powerfully rendered the song capturing the historic arrival of a government ration shop in the remote hill village of Vellagevi—a basic infrastructure amenity the village had been denied throughout its entire 400-year history. Written and directed by filmmaker Tamil Dhayalan, Gevi captures the agonizing, raw journey of a remote mountain community fighting systemic indifference. The film’s international spotlight coincides with an incredible socio-political victory for the actual residents of Vellagevi.

“We are filled with a heart full of gratitude. Our actual, long-standing fight was to bring a road to the people of Vellagevi. While we still await that infrastructure, we are immensely proud and happy for this milestone—bringing a government ration shop to the village for the very first time in its 400-year history.

We expected a road, but we could bring at least a ration shop to our people, and that is a victory worth celebrating. To see this community’s struggle recognized on the global stage with an Oscar consideration, and to have legends like Deva Sir and Vairamuthu Sir give voice to their pain and triumph, is a deeply humbling moment for me as a filmmaker.” – TAMIL DHAYALAN ( DIRECTOR GEVI )
