From Dreams to Dance Floors: Choreographer Sherif Celebrates a Milestone of 250 Songs

From winning the acclaimed dance reality show Ungalil Yaar Adutha Prabhu Deva to becoming one of South Indian cinema’s most sought-after choreographers, Sherif has scripted an inspiring journey powered by passion, perseverance, and relentless hard work.

Having choreographed songs across Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Assamese cinema, Sherif now celebrates a remarkable milestone with his 250th song as a choreographer. From memorable chartbusters like “Kaasu Panam” (Soodhu Kavvum) to making Superstar Rajinikanth groove memorably in Petta, and creating a newfangled choreographic feast with Suriya’s Kanima in Retro, Sherif’s choreography has consistently stood out for its energy, innovation, and unique style, earning him admiration from audiences and filmmakers alike.

Expressing gratitude on this special occasion, Sherif says, “Reaching my 250th song feels surreal and deeply emotional. This milestone belongs not just to me, but to everyone who believed in me and stood by my side through this journey. I would like to sincerely thank my mentors, parents, family, friends, assistant choreographers, dancers, directors, music directors, producers, and every colleague from the industry who trusted my work and encouraged me. Every song has been a learning experience, and I remain grateful for the love and support showered on me over the years.”

When asked about his passion for acting and direction, Sherif shares, “Acting and direction are spaces I deeply admire, and if the right opportunity comes with genuine conviction, I would love to explore them. But choreography has endowed me with a priceless and valuable place in the industry. At this point, I want to focus on that and nurture many young talents who are perhaps even more gifted than me. Cinema is my soul, and I will continue working towards upgrading myself and my profession.”

Having also established Sherif’s Dance Company, mentored aspiring talents, and emerged as the first Indian to join the Global Dance Council (GDC) as convener, Sherif continues to inspire the next generation of dancers while expanding his creative footprint in cinema.
